Board-level water and sand damage work from our Erina workshop, a short run from the beach. Same-day on most repairs, 12-month warranty.
A day at Terrigal Beach or the Haven ends badly more often than people expect. A phone slips out of a pocket into the shore break, or it spends the afternoon on a towel and comes home with fine sand jammed so far into the charge port that the cable will not seat. Terrigal is a beach and holiday town on the Pacific, about 12 km east of Gosford, and beachside water and sand are the two things that put local phones on our bench. iFix Electronics has run a proper repair workshop at 3/221 The Entrance Road, Erina for 16 years, a short run inland from the sand, with the ultrasonic cleaning gear, microscope and board-level tools a salt-water job actually needs.
Salt water is worse than fresh water, and it is not close. Chloride conducts well and accelerates corrosion on the logic board, so a phone that goes into the surf at Terrigal degrades faster than one dropped in a sink. Time is the thing that matters most. If it happens to you, do a few things and skip a few others.
Do not turn it on, and if it is still on, power it off. Do not plug it in to charge, because putting current through a wet, salted board is how a recoverable phone becomes a dead one. Do not pack it in rice: rice does nothing to draw moisture out of a sealed phone and it pushes starch dust and grit into the ports. And do not keep rinsing it in more salt water. Power it down, keep it down, and bring it in as soon as you can. On the bench we open the phone, clean the board with isopropyl and an ultrasonic bath, inspect under the microscope for corrosion, and replace any components the salt has already started eating. The sooner it arrives, the more of that we can save. Our water damage explainer walks through what is actually happening inside.
Sand is the other beach special. Fine grains pack into the Lightning or USB-C charge port so the cable will not seat, or the phone only charges when you hold it at an angle. The same sand clogs the speaker and microphone mesh, so calls come through muffled and the speaker sounds quiet or distorted. A lot of the time this is a careful clean under the microscope. Sometimes the port or the speaker is worn or scored badly enough that it needs replacing. We check first and tell you honestly which one you are looking at before we start.
Into the surf at Terrigal Beach or the Haven, or a drink knocked over on the deck. Power it off, do not charge it, do not use rice. Bring it straight in for disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning and board-level corrosion repair.
Water damage explained →Beach sand packs into the Lightning or USB-C port and the cable will not seat, or only charges at an angle. Often a proper clean, sometimes a port replacement. We tell you which before we touch it.
Charge port guide →Sand and salt in the mesh leave calls muffled and the speaker quiet. Usually a clean of the mesh and grilles; a component replacement if the driver itself is gone. Most turn around the same day.
Cracked glass, dead touch, backlight gone after a drop on the promenade. iPhone, Samsung and Pixel among others, OEM-quality panels, 12-month warranty, same day on most models in stock.
iPhone screen guide →Health under 80%, random shutdowns in the cold surf air, will not last the day out. New batteries, never refurbished, 12-month warranty, fitted same day on most models.
iPhone battery guide →Cracked rear panel on iPhone 8 onwards or a modern Samsung or Pixel. We replace the glass without wrecking wireless charging or the camera lens cluster. Quoted per model.
Galaxy AMOLED panels are unforgiving and poor-quality aftermarket glass shows banding fast. We offer genuine service-pack and quality aftermarket options and explain the trade-offs first.
Samsung screen guide →Pixel 6 and 7 fingerprint sensors need recalibration after a screen swap and we do that as part of the job. Pixel Fold inner displays are a separate quote.
Pixel screen guide →Phone in the water at Terrigal? The sooner it reaches the bench, the more we can save. Call before the corrosion does the deciding.

A short run inland from the beach, on the main strip near Erina Fair.
Monday to Thursday: 9:30 – 5:00
Friday: 9:00 – 3:00
Closed Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
No train station in Terrigal, the nearest is Gosford. Busways buses run Terrigal to Gosford via Erina Fair, so the workshop is right on that bus line (check the current route and stop on the Transport NSW app). By car it is a short, straight run inland.
Free off-street parking directly out the front at the bench, a real relief compared with hunting for a beachfront spot in Terrigal over summer. Drop the phone, grab a coffee, come back for it.
A reasonable rule of thumb: if the repair quote is more than half the secondhand value of an equivalent handset, replacement is worth a thought. For most phones under four years old that is not close, a screen sits well under a new flagship. Water damage is the case where the rule bends, because a phone that looks completely dead is often not, and the photos, messages and account access sitting on the chip are usually recoverable even when the phone itself is not worth saving. That is why we say bring a water-damaged phone in for assessment rather than writing it off. Assessment is free and we will tell you straight when a repair is not the right trade.
If replacing genuinely is the better call, there is a softer landing than a brand-new handset. Browse our certified refurbished iPhones, Samsung Galaxies and Pixels and refurbished phone range, each one bench-tested by the same technicians who do the repairs, with a workshop warranty and full IMEI and activation-lock checks before listing.
