iFix Electronics is the Central Coast's walk-in workshop for computer repairs — based at 3/221 The Entrance Road, Erina, a couple of minutes from Westfield Erina Fair and right in the centre of the Coast. Customers from across the region — Gosford, Terrigal, Avoca, Kincumber, Wyong and Woy Woy — bring us their laptops and desktops when something stops working. We've been at this address for over a decade and have completed more than 35,000 repairs, covering everything from same-day screen and keyboard replacements to board-level motherboard diagnostics that other shops won't attempt. Walk in any time during opening hours — no appointment needed for a free diagnostic or quote, and most laptop battery, charging-port and SSD jobs are turned around the same day.

Most of the computer problems we see fall into a handful of familiar categories: a slow PC that needs an SSD upgrade or a fresh Windows install, a laptop that won't charge after a worn DC jack, a virus or ransomware infection that's locked someone out of their files, or a hard drive making clicking noises — the warning sign that data recovery work is needed. We handle all of these in-house, so devices don't get sent to a Sydney depot for two weeks. Customers from Bateau Bay, Tuggerah, Umina Beach, Copacabana, Kariong, Lisarow, Ourimbah, Point Clare and Saratoga regularly make the drive to Erina because we offer something most Central Coast repair shops don't: true micro-soldering and component-level board repairs that can recover a "non-repairable" MacBook or laptop logic board, often saving customers $400 to $1,600 over a manufacturer replacement. We're also a full phone repair workshop — if you need that instead, see our Erina phone repair page — and we stock certified refurbished phones with a 3-month warranty.

Computer Repair Services in Detail

Most computer faults fall into a handful of categories. Here's what each looks like in the workshop and how we approach it.

Laptop screen replacement

Cracked, black, flickering or dead laptop displays. We fit OEM-quality replacement panels on every common laptop chassis — HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, Razer, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The repair includes panel removal, hinge inspection (a cracked screen often comes with hinge damage that needs addressing at the same time), driver re-pairing where needed, and a 12-month warranty on parts and labour. Most non-Apple laptop screens are fitted same-day; MacBook Retina panels take 1–2 days depending on model. See our laptop screen replacement guide for model coverage and pricing.

Laptop battery replacement

Laptop batteries last 3–5 years before noticeable capacity loss. Signs you need a replacement: under two hours of use on a full charge, the laptop only running when plugged in, battery swelling lifting the keyboard or trackpad, or Windows / macOS flagging "service battery." We fit genuine OEM cells on every common laptop chassis — including MacBook Pro Retina (every generation since 2012) and the current M-series MacBook Air and Pro. Most non-Apple laptop batteries are fitted same-day. See our MacBook battery replacement guide for Apple-specific detail.

Charging port and DC jack repair

Loose USB-C ports, dead DC jacks, intermittent charging, or the laptop only charging when the cable is held at a specific angle — almost always a board-level repair, not a replacement part. We desolder the worn or fractured connector and fit a new one to the logic board with proper microsoldering technique. Most shops won't attempt this and will quote you for a replacement motherboard at $400–$1,200. A proper port reflow or replacement is usually $130–$220.

SSD upgrade and Windows reinstall

The single highest-impact upgrade for any pre-2018 laptop running mechanical hard drive or older SATA SSD. A modern NVMe SSD with a clean Windows 11 install will cut boot time from 90 seconds to 12, application launches from seconds to instant, and revive a "slow" laptop that the customer was about to replace. We migrate user data, set up Windows / macOS, install essential software, and dispose of the old drive securely. Typical cost: $260–$420 depending on capacity. See why your laptop is slow for the full breakdown of what actually fixes a slow machine.

Virus, malware and ransomware removal

Browser hijackers, fake antivirus pop-ups, scareware, real malware infections, ransomware that's encrypted personal files, and remote-access scam tooling left behind after a tech-support fraud. We boot the system in a controlled environment, scan with multiple offline scanners, manually inspect persistence locations (registry run keys, scheduled tasks, browser extensions, services), and either clean the system or do a fresh OS install with user-data migration depending on severity. We also audit for credential theft (paste history, saved browser passwords, session tokens) and advise on what to change. Walk-in diagnostic is free.

Data recovery from failed drives

Mechanical hard drives that click, SSDs that no longer mount, dead laptops where the drive is fine but the motherboard isn't, accidentally deleted files, formatted drives, and corrupted partitions. We operate the only Class-100 clean-bench recovery setup on the Central Coast and recover data in-house rather than sending devices to Sydney. No-recovery, no-fee on most jobs. See our full data recovery guide for case studies and pricing tiers.

Motherboard and board-level repairs

The work most repair shops won't quote on. Liquid-damage corrosion cleanup on Apple logic boards, GPU reflows, NAND chip-off data recovery, fractured solder joints on power-management ICs, replacing dead capacitors and shorted MOSFETs, and resurrecting "non-repairable" laptops that another shop has already declared dead. Customers from Sydney and Newcastle regularly post their MacBooks to us because we'll attempt repairs the manufacturer-authorised service centres won't.

Desktop PC builds, upgrades and repairs

Power-supply failures, RAM faults, GPU crashes, BSODs, custom gaming-PC builds, and component upgrades. We diagnose with proper PSU testers, RAM stress tools and GPU benchmark suites rather than parts-swapping. If you're planning a new build, we can source components, assemble, install OS and benchmark for around the same price as ordering everything yourself — minus the assembly risk.

Typical turnaround

Same-day
Most laptop battery, SSD, RAM, charge port, virus removal jobs
1–2 days
Laptop screens, MacBook batteries, complex virus removal
2–5 days
Board-level microsoldering, liquid damage recovery, GPU reflows
3–10 days
Data recovery (depends on drive type and damage severity)

What makes us different from other Central Coast repair shops

Five concrete things, in order of how often they matter to customers:

  1. Board-level repair, not just replacement. Most local shops are limited to swapping whole components. We have a proper microsoldering station, thermal imaging, and chip programmers — the difference between "you need a new motherboard, $1,200" and "we'll reflow the power IC for $180."
  2. In-house data recovery. We don't ship dead drives to Sydney depots. Failed mechanical HDDs and SSDs go straight to our clean bench, which means faster turnaround and lower cost than the chain repair shops who outsource everything past the basic checklist.
  3. Same technicians for 16 years. The people doing the work today did the work in 2010. That continuity matters when you're dealing with unusual fault patterns — the workshop has seen them before.
  4. Transparent pricing and no-fix-no-fee diagnosis. We quote before any work begins, and if we can't fix it, you don't pay for the diagnostic. The full repair pricing guide is published on the site.
  5. 12-month warranty on parts and labour. Standard industry warranty is 90 days. We back our repairs for four times that.

Suburbs we cover across the Central Coast

All work is performed at our Erina workshop, but customers regularly drive in from across the entire Coast. The most common origin suburbs:

Gosford LGA: Gosford, Erina, Terrigal, Avoca, Kincumber, Saratoga, Davistown, Empire Bay, Wamberal, Forresters Beach
Woy Woy peninsula: Woy Woy, Umina Beach, Ettalong, Booker Bay, Pearl Beach, Patonga
Northern / Wyong LGA: Wyong, Tuggerah, Bateau Bay, The Entrance, Long Jetty, Berkeley Vale, Toukley, Budgewoi, Norah Head

Not local? We accept laptops and desktops by post from anywhere in Australia — tracked and insured for replacement value, with the same warranty as in-person repairs. Round-trip is typically 5–8 business days. See the Central Coast service-area page for the full Coast-wide breakdown including phone and tablet repair coverage.

Common questions

Do you fix Apple computers, or only Windows?

Both. Roughly 40% of our computer-repair work is Apple: MacBook Pro and Air (every generation since 2012 including current M-series), iMac, Mac mini, and the occasional Mac Pro. We do board-level repairs on Apple logic boards, T2 / Secure Enclave aware work, and SSD recovery on both removable and soldered NAND configurations. Genuine OEM parts where available, OEM-quality equivalents otherwise.

How much is a laptop repair on the Central Coast?

Depends on the fault. Indicative ranges: laptop screen replacement $280–$520 (non-Apple), MacBook Retina screen $480–$780. Laptop battery replacement $180–$320. SSD upgrade with Windows reinstall $260–$420. Virus removal $130–$220. Charge port reflow $130–$220. Data recovery starts at $190 for software-recoverable failures and scales with severity. Free diagnostic and exact quote on any job — just walk in or call.

My laptop won't turn on at all. Can it be saved?

Usually yes. The most common causes of a dead laptop are a failed power-management IC, a worn DC jack, a failed battery that's pulled the charging circuit down with it, or in MacBooks a single shorted capacitor on the logic board. None of these are visible without proper diagnosis, but all of them are fixable at the board level. If another shop has told you it's "not repairable" or quoted you for a replacement motherboard, bring it to us for a second opinion before paying.

Will I lose my data during the repair?

For hardware repairs (screen, battery, charge port, RAM, even motherboard work) — no, your data stays on the drive untouched. For SSD upgrades we migrate the existing system to the new drive. For virus removal we work around your data wherever possible, only moving to a wipe-and-reinstall if the infection is severe enough that cleaning isn't safe. For data recovery from a failed drive, we always recover to a separate drive without writing to the original.

Can you recover data from a laptop that's been dropped in water?

Often yes — if the drive itself wasn't physically damaged. The motherboard may be a write-off but the SSD or HDD usually survives water exposure intact. We pull the drive, image it on dedicated recovery hardware, and either return the data on a new drive or migrate to a replacement laptop. Cost depends on drive condition. The sooner you bring it in after the spill, the better — corrosion compounds over weeks.

How does this compare to Apple Genius Bar or chain repair shops?

Apple's authorised service network treats most board-level faults as full-board replacements at $1,000+ AUD — even when a single $30 part has failed. Chain shops are usually limited to component swaps and outsource anything past that to specialist labs. We do the work in-house including the things both of those options will turn away. The trade-off is we're not an authorised service centre, so we don't honour Apple warranty on the device after repair — that's the catch with anything done outside Apple's network.

Do I need an appointment?

No. The workshop accepts walk-ins during opening hours (Mon–Fri 9–5:30, Sat 9–2) for diagnostics and drop-offs. Diagnostic and quote are free with no obligation. If you'd rather book a time slot to be sure of getting prioritised, book online or call (02) 4311 6146.

Can I post my laptop in if I'm not on the Coast?

Yes — we receive laptops, MacBooks and desktop components by post from Sydney, Newcastle, regional NSW and interstate. Call or message first to confirm fault and quote, then ship tracked and insured for the device's replacement value. We diagnose and quote within 24 hours of arrival, complete work after confirmation, and ship back the same day work is finished. Round-trip is typically 5–8 business days for hardware work, longer for data recovery depending on severity.
