What a mattress in a box actually is

A bed-in-a-box mattress is an ordinary foam or spring mattress that's been squashed flat in a vacuum machine, rolled up tight and boxed so a courier can carry it. When you cut the plastic at home it unrolls and slowly pushes back to full height. Zinus and Novilla both say to allow up to 72 hours for that, and in my experience a cold room makes it take longer, because foam is stiffer when it's cold.

The five in this guide are all queen size and sit between $272 and $689 on Amazon AU at time of writing. Three are Zinus, two of them sold by Amazon AU and one by Zinus Australia. One is a Novilla from Sweetnight's Australian storefront, and one is a Giselle pocket spring from Artiss Furnishings, an Australian online furniture seller. I've said on each card who you're buying from, because with a mattress the return terms matter more than almost anything else.

I'm not going to tell you which one will feel best. Comfort is personal, and anyone who claims to know what suits your body from a listing is guessing. What I can tell you is what each one is built from, which parts wear out first, what the listings leave out and which ones will be easiest to sort out if something goes wrong. That's the part most mattress reviews skip.

I've also left out the claims the listings make about bodies and nights. None of that is something I can check, and it doesn't belong in a buying guide. What's left is the hardware: layers, springs, covers, weights and warranties.

Foam, pocket springs or a hybrid

An all-foam mattress is a stack of foam layers glued together, usually a softer memory foam on top and a firmer support foam underneath. The Zinus Deluxe and Cloud Cool and the Novilla AiryFlow are all foam. Foam mattresses roll up small, cost less to ship, don't make noise and don't pass much movement across the bed. They also tend to feel warmer, because foam holds heat and doesn't let much air through.

A pocket spring mattress has hundreds of small steel coils, each sewn into its own fabric pocket so it moves on its own. A hybrid puts foam layers on top of those springs. The Zinus Support Plus lists 19cm of iCoil pocket springs under 6cm of high-density foam and 5cm of comfort foam, topped with a quilted euro top. The Giselle lists a 20cm pocket spring under 6cm of high resilience foam and a 5cm pillow top.

Springs breathe better than solid foam, feel bouncier and usually give firmer edges. They're also heavier. The Giselle's listing data gives about 41kg, against about 20kg for the Zinus Cloud Cool. In a box, that's the difference between one person carrying it up the stairs and two people struggling with it.

There isn't a right answer here. If you run warm or share the bed with someone who sits on the edge a lot, a hybrid is usually the safer bet. If you want the lightest mattress that's easiest to move, foam wins.

What the listings don't tell you about foam

The number that matters most for how long a foam mattress lasts is the foam's density, usually given in kilograms per cubic metre. Denser foam holds its shape longer. Not one of these five listings states a foam density, and that's normal for mattresses on Amazon. It means the listing can't tell you whether one 25cm foam mattress will last twice as long as another.

What the listings do give is layer thickness and total height. The Zinus Deluxe range comes in 15, 20, 25 and 30cm versions, and Zinus says the thicker ones feel softer, because more of the height is soft foam. A thicker soft layer on top usually shows body impressions sooner, so a very plush mattress isn't always the one that lasts longest.

Every pick here lists CertiPUR-US certified foam. That's an American certification that covers what's in the foam and how it's tested for emissions and durability. It's a reasonable sign, but it isn't an Australian standard, and it doesn't tell you the density either. The Zinus Deluxe and the Novilla AiryFlow also say they're fibreglass-free.

Fibreglass is worth asking about. Some low-cost foam mattresses use a fibreglass layer inside the cover as a fire barrier, and if the cover gets unzipped or torn it can shed into the room and into everything nearby. If a listing doesn't say what the fire barrier is made of, I'd ask the seller before you buy.

Edges, weight and your bed base

Edge support is how much the side of the mattress sinks when you sit on it. It matters if you sit on the edge to put shoes on, or if two people share a queen and one ends up near the side. Foam mattresses usually have softer edges. Springs with a foam border are usually firmer, and the Zinus Support Plus lists encasement foam around its springs for that reason.

Check your bed base before you order. Foam mattresses need a solid base or closely spaced slats, because foam pushes down into wide gaps and wears unevenly. Most warranties have rules about the base, and a mattress on the wrong base can lose its warranty claim even when the foam has genuinely failed. Read the warranty terms on the listing or the brand's site for the slat spacing they want.

Weight matters too. The listing data gives about 29kg for the Zinus Deluxe, 36kg for the Support Plus, 20kg for the Cloud Cool, 26kg for the Novilla and 41kg for the Giselle. Rolled up they're awkward, so plan for two people on stairs. Once it's out of the plastic, there's no getting it back in the box.

Rotate a mattress head to foot every few months for the first year. It evens out the wear where you lie, and none of these are designed to be flipped, so rotating is all you can do.

Returns and trials: the bit that catches people

Mattress shops in Australia often advertise 100-night trials. Amazon listings mostly don't. Once you cut the plastic, the mattress expands and can't be rolled back into its box, so sending it back through Amazon is a big job, and a seller may treat a used mattress differently from an unopened one. Read the seller's return terms before you buy, not after.

That's one reason I've leaned on Zinus here. Two of the Zinus picks are sold by Amazon AU itself and the third by Zinus Australia, and all three list a five-year warranty. The Giselle lists a 15-year warranty through Artiss, and the Novilla says it's backed by a 10-year limited protection. Longer warranties sound better, but the fine print decides what counts as a fault, usually a dip deeper than a set number of centimetres.

Take photos of the law tag and the box label when it arrives, and keep the receipt somewhere safe. If you ever need a warranty claim, the brand will usually want the model code, the date and photos of the dip with a straight edge across it. The model codes on these listings start with AU- for the Zinus picks, which is a good sign it's the Australian version.

Don't throw out the mattress protector packaging either. Most warranties require a protector, because stains are the most common reason a claim gets knocked back.

Heat, damp and the gear around the bed

Every listing here talks about cooling. The Zinus Cloud Cool lists gel memory foam, a 7-zone ventilation pattern and a cool-to-touch knit cover. The Novilla AiryFlow lists an ice silk cover, gel foam and 3D mesh sides. Those features help a bit, but foam still holds more heat than springs. Breathable cotton sheets make more difference than most people expect.

If you use an electric blanket or heated underlay, check the mattress and blanket instructions first. Some foam makers say not to use one, and memory foam softens as it warms, so a heated underlay changes how it feels. Our electric blanket guide covers which blankets have proper overheat protection and controllers that last, which is the part that usually fails.

Damp is the other thing. A mattress on a solid base in a cold bedroom can collect moisture underneath, and in a Central Coast winter that can turn into mould on the base or the bottom of the mattress. Lift it and air the underside every few weeks in winter. In a room that's damp all year, a dehumidifier protects the mattress, the timber base and anything electronic in the room.

Phones are the gear I worry about most. A phone charging under a pillow can't get rid of its heat, and with a poor charger it can get hot enough to damage the battery. If you want to know what no-name chargers do to a phone overnight, that page explains it.

Cleaning, covers and robot vacuums

None of these listings say the cover is removable or machine washable, so assume it isn't. A good waterproof mattress protector is the easiest way to keep the mattress clean and the warranty valid. Wash the protector, not the mattress, and spot clean any marks with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent, letting it dry fully before you make the bed.

Smell is normal when a foam mattress is first unrolled. Most listings say the smell fades within a day or two, and one I left out claims most of it goes within 24 hours. Open the windows and leave it uncovered for a day if you can. If the smell is still strong after a week, contact the seller, because that's not normal.

If you've got one of the robot vacuums in that guide, check its height against the space under your bed. A low bed frame and a thick mattress don't change the gap, but a new base often does, and a robot that wedges itself under a bed every night ends up with worn wheels and a tired battery. Some people run it under the bed once a week with the clearance in mind.

Vacuum the mattress itself every couple of months with an upholstery tool. It keeps dust off the surface, and it's the only cleaning most foam mattresses really need. A stick vacuum with a mini motorised head does it in a few minutes.

What I left out and why

I left out the MH.zzz hybrid, even though it's the best-selling queen mattress on Amazon AU by sales rank. Its listing makes medical claims, lab percentages and comparisons that I have no way of checking, and it's sold by a marketplace seller. I'd rather recommend a listing that tells you what's in it than one that tells you how you'll feel.

I also left out mattress toppers, kids' mattresses and the single, double and king sizes. The Zinus, Novilla and Giselle picks are mostly sold in other sizes as well, so if you need a king, look for the same model in that size on the listing. Prices change by size, and the specs I've quoted are for the queen versions only.

I didn't include mattresses shipped from overseas, because a warranty claim on a mattress needs a local seller who'll actually inspect it. A few close contenders are in the extras below the picks, but I'd read each one's return terms with the same care.

The 5 picks, $272 to $689

Zinus Deluxe green tea memory foam queen mattress 25cm on a bed base
Best seller

Zinus Deluxe Green Tea Memory Foam Queen Mattress, 25cm, Medium Plush

ASIN B07W8SFZRG • $299.00 • Sold by Zinus Australia on Amazon AU

The Zinus Deluxe is the mattress I'd look at first. It's $299 on Amazon AU at time of writing, sold by Zinus Australia, and it's #4 in Amazon AU's Mattresses category, the best rank of any pick here. It's a 25cm all-foam queen with a memory foam top layer infused with green tea extract and ActivCharcoal, and Zinus describes the feel as medium plush. The model is AU-MFGNO4ZC-10Q, which points to the Australian version. The listing data gives a weight of about 29kg and a size of about 152 by 203cm. The warranty is listed as five years. Zinus has sold this range for years, so it isn't a brand that'll vanish.

The Deluxe sits in a range of four heights: 15cm Essentials, 20cm Classic, 25cm Deluxe and 30cm Elite. Zinus says the thinner ones feel medium and the thicker ones feel plusher, because more of the mattress is soft foam. That makes the 25cm a middle choice, and it's a good one if you like a softer bed without going all the way to the 30cm. The listing says it's made without fibreglass, which matters for the fire barrier inside the cover, and the foam is CertiPUR-US certified. Zinus also says to allow two to four weeks to get used to memory foam, which is honest advice for any foam mattress.

The listing doesn't state the foam density or the layer thicknesses, so you can't compare how long it'll hold its shape against another foam mattress. It doesn't say whether the cover comes off. Put it on a solid base or close slats, use a protector, and rotate it every few months. Being sold by Zinus Australia keeps the warranty with the brand. Keep it out of direct sun through a window, because UV yellows foam over time. Lift it and air the underside every few weeks in a damp winter. For a well-ranked foam queen from a local brand storefront, it's the safe starting point.

Honest caveats: Honest caveats: the listing doesn't state the foam density or the thickness of each layer. It's all foam, so it'll feel warmer than a spring mattress. The cover isn't listed as removable. The medium plush feel won't suit people who want a firm bed.

Best for: Most people wanting a well-ranked, mid-height foam queen from a local brand storefront.

Type: All foam, memory foam top • Height: 25cm • Feel: Medium plush (per listing) • Weight: About 29kg (listed 63.5 lb) • Fibreglass: Fibreglass-free (per listing) • Warranty: 5 years (listed) • Model: AU-MFGNO4ZC-10Q • Seller: Zinus Australia • Rank: #4 in Mattresses (Amazon AU)

Zinus Support Plus 30cm pocket spring hybrid queen mattress with quilted euro top
Best hybrid

Zinus Support Plus Queen Mattress, 30cm, iCoil Pocket Springs, Euro Top

ASIN B0894FTYTL • $349.99 • Ships from Amazon AU

The Zinus Support Plus is the pick if you want springs rather than all foam. It's $350 on Amazon AU at time of writing, sold by Amazon AU, and it's #20 in Amazon AU's Mattresses category. It's a 30cm hybrid, and the listing gives the full build: 19cm of individually wrapped iCoil pocket springs with encasement foam around them, 6cm of high-density foam, 5cm of soft comfort foam and a quilted euro top. The model is AU-MSSPGR-12Q. The listing data gives a weight of about 36kg. The warranty is listed as five years, and the cover is white and grey. Amazon AU also sells a double version, though the specs here are for the queen.

A full layer list is rarer than it should be on Amazon, and it's the reason this one is here. The pocket springs move on their own, so a partner rolling over doesn't shake the whole bed, and springs let more air through than solid foam, which helps if you run warm or the bedroom gets stuffy in summer. The encasement foam around the springs firms up the edges, so sitting on the side to get dressed doesn't feel like sliding off. The euro top adds a softer layer you can feel straight away. It still rolls up into one box, and the listing says it expands to its full shape within 72 hours.

The listing doesn't state the foam density or the spring count, and its copy makes a claim about bodies I've left out. At about 36kg it's a two-person carry in the box. Rotate it every few months for the first year, and use a protector, because a euro top marks easily. Amazon AU selling it makes returns before opening simple. Air the underside every few weeks in winter, because springs sitting on a solid base can trap damp. Keep sharp-cornered bed frames from rubbing the cover. Vacuum the euro top every couple of months. For a hybrid with its layers actually listed, it's the one.

Honest caveats: Honest caveats: the listing doesn't state the foam density or the number of springs. At about 36kg it's heavy to move. It isn't designed to be flipped, so rotating is the only way to even out wear. Its copy makes a claim about bodies that I can't check.

Best for: Couples and warm sleepers who want pocket springs, firmer edges and a fully listed layer build.

Type: Hybrid, pocket springs • Height: 30cm • Layers: 19cm iCoil springs, 6cm HD foam, 5cm comfort foam, euro top • Edges: Encasement foam • Weight: About 36kg (listed 79 lb) • Warranty: 5 years (listed) • Model: AU-MSSPGR-12Q • Seller: Amazon AU • Rank: #20 in Mattresses (Amazon AU)

Zinus Cloud Cool 20cm gel memory foam queen mattress with soft-knit cover
Lightest

Zinus Cloud Cool Queen Mattress, 20cm, Gel Green Tea Foam, 7-Zone

ASIN B097P43ZGS • $329.99 • Ships from Amazon AU

The Zinus Cloud Cool is the pick for a lighter foam mattress with more attention paid to heat. It's $330 on Amazon AU at time of writing, sold by Amazon AU, and it's #55 in Amazon AU's Mattresses category. It's a 20cm foam queen with a top layer of cooling gel memory foam, a 7-zone ventilation pattern cut into the foam for airflow, and a cool-to-touch soft-knit cover. The model is AU-MFGNCA-08Q. The listing data gives a weight of about 20kg, the lightest pick here by a long way, and about half the weight of the Giselle. The warranty is listed as five years. Zinus Australia sells a 25cm version for $389, which suits heavier sleepers better.

At 20kg, one person can get it up the stairs in its box, which isn't true of the hybrids. That suits a spare room, a rental you might move out of, or a teenager's room where the bed gets moved around. The gel foam and the ventilation pattern are there to tackle the main complaint about memory foam, which is heat, and the cover is designed to feel cool when you first lie down. Zinus says it's medium in feel. The listing says it's packed in one box and expands to its full height within 72 hours, and like every Zinus here the foam is CertiPUR-US certified, with an AU model code.

The listing doesn't state the foam density or the layer thicknesses, and a 20cm mattress has less foam to wear through than a 25 or 30cm one. Cooling features help, but it's still foam, so use cotton sheets. Put it on a solid base or close slats. Rotate it every few months. Lift it and air the underside in a damp winter. Being sold by Amazon AU makes an unopened return simple, and the five-year warranty sits with Zinus. Keep the law tag on for any claim. For a light, cooler foam queen from Amazon AU, it's the easiest one to live with.

Honest caveats: Honest caveats: the listing doesn't state the foam density or the layer thicknesses. At 20cm it's the thinnest pick, so heavier sleepers may want the 25cm version. Cooling features reduce heat but foam still runs warmer than springs. The cover isn't listed as removable.

Best for: Spare rooms, rentals and anyone who needs a foam queen one person can carry.

Type: All foam, gel memory foam top • Height: 20cm • Cooling: 7-zone ventilation, cool-touch knit cover • Feel: Medium (per listing) • Weight: About 20kg (listed 44.9 lb) • Warranty: 5 years (listed) • Model: AU-MFGNCA-08Q • Seller: Amazon AU • Rank: #55 in Mattresses (Amazon AU)

Giselle white 31cm pocket spring euro top queen mattress
Longest warranty

Giselle Queen Mattress, 31cm Pocket Spring, 5-Zone, Euro Top, Medium Firm

ASIN B076P14ZYH • $271.95 • Sold by Artiss Furnishings on Amazon AU

The Giselle is the lowest-priced spring mattress here and carries the longest warranty. It's $272 on Amazon AU at time of writing, sold by Artiss Furnishings, an Australian online furniture seller trading on the marketplace, and it's #21 in Amazon AU's Mattresses category. The listing gives the size as 153 by 203 by 31cm, with a 5cm pillow top, 6cm of high resilience foam and a 20cm pocket spring layer split into five zones. The model is MATTRESS-BET-Q, and the cover is white knitted jacquard. The warranty is listed as 15 years. Giselle Bedding is the brand, and Artiss sells it in other sizes too, including king and double, at different prices.

The build is similar to the Zinus Support Plus, with springs under foam, and on paper it gives you a thicker mattress for less money. The listing describes the springs as triple-tempered high carbon steel, tested 100,000 times, with the foam layer made of high resilience foam between two egg-crate foams for airflow. The five zones mean the springs are firmer in some areas of the mattress than in others. It's described as medium firm, which suits people who don't like sinking into memory foam. A spring mattress also breathes better than foam, so it suits a warm bedroom on the Central Coast in summer, when foam can feel stuffy.

The listing data gives about 41kg, the heaviest pick, so it's a two-person carry. It doesn't state the foam density or the spring count, and some of its copy reaches into claims I've ignored. A 15-year warranty is only as useful as its terms, so read them. Rotate it every few months, and air the underside in winter. Being sold through the marketplace means warranty claims go through Artiss, so keep the order details. Use a protector from day one, because most claims need one. For a thick pocket spring queen at the lowest price here, it's the value pick.

Honest caveats: Honest caveats: it's sold by a marketplace seller rather than Amazon AU or a brand storefront. At about 41kg it's the heaviest pick. The listing doesn't state the foam density or spring count. The 15-year warranty's terms aren't on the listing, so read them first.

Best for: People who want a thick, medium-firm pocket spring queen at the lowest price here.

Type: Pocket spring, euro top • Size: 153 x 203 x 31cm • Layers: 5cm pillow top, 6cm HR foam, 20cm 5-zone springs • Feel: Medium firm (per listing) • Weight: About 41kg (listed 90.4 lb) • Warranty: 15 years (listed) • Model: MATTRESS-BET-Q • Seller: Artiss Furnishings (marketplace) • Rank: #21 in Mattresses (Amazon AU)

Novilla AiryFlow 30cm queen memory foam mattress with black mesh sides
Most cooling features

Novilla AiryFlow Queen Memory Foam Mattress, 30cm, Medium Firm

ASIN B0H27T8MT3 • $689.00 • Sold by Sweetnight Australia on Amazon AU

The Novilla AiryFlow is the pick for a thick foam mattress built around keeping cool. It's $689 on Amazon AU at time of writing, sold by Sweetnight Australia, the brand's Australian storefront, and it's #241 in Amazon AU's Mattresses category. It's a 30cm foam queen with what Novilla calls a three-part cooling build: an ice silk cover that feels cool to touch, NanoGEL memory foam on top, and 3D breathable mesh around the sides. Underneath there's a dual-layer support foam. The model is N-M01053, and the colour is black. The listing data gives a weight of about 26kg. Novilla also sells a 20cm Bliss model for $319, with a plainer knit cover.

The mesh sides are the feature I'd pay attention to. Solid foam traps heat because air can't move through it, and mesh around the edges gives that air somewhere to go when you move. The ice silk cover is there for the first few minutes of lying down, which is when most people notice a warm mattress. Novilla says it's medium firm, which is firmer than the Zinus foam picks and closer to the hybrids. The listing says it uses CertiPUR-US foam, OEKO-TEX fabrics and no fibreglass, and it lists green tea infused foam for freshness. It's backed by what the listing calls 10-year limited protection, the second longest here.

It's more than twice the price of the other foam picks, and the listing doesn't state the foam density or the layer thicknesses, so you're paying for the cooling build rather than proven foam quality. Its rank is the lowest here. Some of its copy makes claims I've ignored. Read the 10-year terms first. Keep the mesh sides clear of the bed frame so air can move through them. Vacuum the cover every couple of months. Being sold by Sweetnight's AU storefront keeps support local. For the most cooling-focused foam queen from an AU storefront, it's the step up.

Honest caveats: Honest caveats: it's the most expensive pick, more than twice the Zinus foam picks. The listing doesn't state the foam density or the layer thicknesses. Its sales rank is the lowest here. The 10-year protection terms aren't spelled out on the listing.

Best for: Warm sleepers who want a thick, medium-firm foam queen with mesh sides and a cool-touch cover.

Type: All foam, NanoGEL memory foam top • Height: 30cm • Cooling: Ice silk cover, 3D mesh sides • Feel: Medium firm (per listing) • Weight: About 26kg (listed 56.8 lb) • Warranty: 10-year limited protection (listed) • Model: N-M01053 • Seller: Sweetnight Australia • Rank: #241 in Mattresses (Amazon AU)

What we see fail in the workshop: gear around the bed

Nobody brings a mattress into a repair shop, but a lot of what does come in lives in the bedroom. Heated underlays and electric blankets with dead controllers, phones that got hot charging under a pillow, and robot vacuums that spend their nights wedged under bed frames all turn up regularly. Each one has a simple cause, and most of them can be prevented with a bit of care.

Electric blanket and underlay controllers

The controller and the plug-in connector are the parts that fail on a heated underlay, far more often than the heating wires. The connector gets bent when the bed's made, the controller gets kicked off the bed, and the cord gets pinched between the mattress and the base. The signs are a light that flickers, one side that won't heat or a controller that gets warm. Stop using it straight away if you see scorched spots or smell burning. Route the cord so it isn't trapped by the mattress, and check it every winter before you turn it on.

Phones cooked under pillows

A phone charging under a pillow has nowhere to put its heat. The battery gets hot, the phone slows its charging to protect itself, and over months the battery wears out faster than it should. With a poor charger, it's worse, because some no-name chargers don't regulate voltage properly. The phones we see from this usually have a swollen battery pushing the screen up. Charge your phone on a bedside table, out in the open, with a decent charger and cable. It's the easiest way to make a battery last.

Robot vacuums stuck under beds

Robot vacuums love the gap under a bed and often can't get out of it. They wedge against the slats or the base, spin their wheels and drain their battery trying to escape, every night. Over time that wears the wheel motors and gears, and the side brush tangles in anything that's fallen behind the bed. Measure the gap under your bed against the robot's height, and either block it off or set a no-go zone in the app. Clearing hair from the brush roll every week stops most of the motor faults we see.

Frequently asked questions

Are bed-in-a-box mattresses any good?

They can be. A mattress in a box is a normal foam or spring mattress that's been compressed and rolled for shipping, so the build matters more than the box. The Zinus, Novilla and Giselle picks in this guide all list their height, type and warranty, and the Zinus Support Plus lists every layer. What you give up is the chance to lie on it first, and on Amazon the return terms are usually stricter than a mattress shop's trial, so read them before you buy.

How long does a mattress in a box take to expand?

Zinus and Novilla both say to allow up to 72 hours for full expansion, and one hybrid listing I checked says 48 hours. Most of the height comes back in the first few hours. A cold room slows it down, because foam is stiffer when it's cold, so unroll it in a warm room if you can. You can usually sleep on it the first night, and some brands say using it sooner helps it expand.

Is a hybrid or foam mattress better?

Neither is better for everyone. Foam is lighter, quieter and passes less movement across the bed, but it holds more heat. A hybrid puts foam on top of pocket springs, so it breathes better, feels bouncier and usually has firmer edges, but it's heavier. In this guide, the Zinus Support Plus and the Giselle are spring mattresses, and the other three are foam. If you run warm or sit on the edge a lot, a hybrid is usually the safer choice.

Can I return a mattress in a box on Amazon?

It depends on the seller, so read the return terms before you order. Once you cut the plastic, the mattress expands and can't go back in its box, which makes returns hard. Some sellers treat an opened mattress differently from an unopened one. Two Zinus picks here are sold by Amazon AU and one by Zinus Australia, which keeps the warranty simple. Keep the receipt, the law tag and photos of the label for any warranty claim.

What base does a mattress in a box need?

A solid base or slats spaced closely together. Foam pushes down into wide gaps between slats and wears unevenly, and most mattress warranties have rules about the base, so a mattress on the wrong one can lose its warranty claim. Check the warranty terms on the listing or the brand's site for the slat spacing they want. Rotate the mattress head to foot every few months in the first year to even out the wear.

Can I use an electric blanket on a memory foam mattress?

Check both sets of instructions first, because some foam makers advise against it. Memory foam softens as it warms, so a heated underlay changes how the mattress feels, and heat can affect the foam over time. If you do use one, make sure it has overheat protection, keep the cord from being pinched between the mattress and the base, and check the controller and connector every winter. Turning it on before bed and off when you get in is the gentlest way to use one.

Electric blanket, phone or robot vacuum playing up?

The bedroom gear we see most is heated underlays with failed controllers, phone batteries worn out by charging under a pillow and robot vacuums with tired wheel motors. Bring it into our Erina workshop and we'll test it, find out why it failed, and tell you whether it's worth fixing before you spend anything.
