Here is the honest state of the market in September 2026: new gaming laptops with a proper graphics chip under $1,500 are thin on the ground from Australian sellers. Most of what fits the budget uses an RTX 3050, and there are only a handful of new ones.
That is still enough to play Fortnite, Valorant, Minecraft and most current games at 1080p on medium settings. What to look for
- A dedicated NVIDIA GPU. An RTX 3050 is the realistic floor at this price; an RTX 4050 is a clear step up if you can stretch.
- 16GB of RAM. Every pick here has it. 8GB is no longer enough for current games.

Mistakes I see in the workshop
Gaming on a bed or couch. Soft surfaces block the intake vents, the laptop throttles, and dust builds up fast. Use it on a desk or a hard tray.
Never cleaning the fans. Most gaming laptops that come to us running hot and slow have fans packed with dust. A clean every year or so restores the performance you paid for.
Leaving it at 100% on the charger. Gaming laptops spend their lives plugged in. Turn on the battery care or charge limit setting (ASUS and Acer both have one) so the battery is not held at full charge.
