What we see fail at the bench: desk microphones and the ports they live on
Microphones themselves rarely come across the bench. What comes across the bench is the laptop the microphone was plugged into, and the fault is almost always at the join. After 16 years the pattern is boringly consistent, and it is worth knowing before you choose between these three.
USB ports wear out on gear that lives plugged in and gets knocked
A USB connector is a mechanical part with a rated insertion life, and desk microphones sit in the worst possible duty cycle: plugged in permanently, never inspected, and levered sideways every time somebody reaches past for a coffee.
